my body is a cage

Kevin is a teenager--although he looks a bit older, luckily for him--who is below average height, white, with dark hair and green eyes and a slight Southern (American) accent faint enough to indicate he's from an urban area (Atlanta). He wears a lot of black and is usually covered completely from the neck down, including some kind of vinyl or rubber bodysuit under his clothes, and matching gloves. He is exceptionally skittish and extremely particular about his personal space, and will overreact violently to having it invaded. He is human, but a mutant, with a particular odour/aura (depending on your characters' sensibilities) of death about him.
Kevin's mutation is the ability to rapidly decay any organic matter his skin comes into contact with--which includes people, yes. Inorganic matter--including most synthetic material such as PVC--is unaffected; the mutant Mercury is immune from his touch, while Colossus, whose "metal" form is actually pseudo-organic bio-steel, is not. His power goes into effect immediately and takes less than a second to cause permanent damage, less than 30 to completely reduce an object the same mass as an average person to ash. He doesn't eat--he seems to absorb sustenance through leeching energy in some way from the things he touches--and is in fact incapable of eating normally as any food he puts into his mouth rots immediately upon contact. His mutation can be considered a kind of vampirism, as he is also plagued with an urge to use it that he describes as a "hunger" which becomes stronger the longer he's gone without it. He tends to hallucinate, seeing people and objects in their decayed forms. Kevin's power is uncontrollable and cannot be turned on or off at will.
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised by a single father. A good student, if shy and reserved, Kevin was extremely artistic and creative, excelling in arts and humanities but generally getting good grades. He was every parent and teacher's dream--well-behaved, articulate, intelligent, thoughtful, polite, never caused any trouble, never hurt anyone. He had some problems with bullying, but learned to cope. When he was sixteen, his mutation suddenly manifested, while he was at home--everything he touched started to rot away. His father, in trying to comfort him, put his arms around him, and was reduced to ash within seconds. Kevin freaked and fled, living in the junkyard he used to steal scraps from for his art projects, when he was attacked by the junkyard dog, which he accidentally killed when it bit him. He was then assaulted by the junkyard's owners, while pleading with them not to touch them, he didn't want to hurt them. Danielle Moonstar arrived in time to prevent anything tragic from happening and brought him back to Xavier's.
Kevin was ostracized by most of the other students, who were afraid of him because of his death touch, but the New Mutants (mostly) immediately accepted him as one of their own. He was excited to be a part of the X-men and looked forward to learning to control his power and use it to help people--he wanted to be a hero. However, in a confrontation with the Reavers, he lost control of himself and nearly killed a man until he was stopped by Dani, who showed him his greatest fear to get him to stop--a vision of Kevin killing Laurie, a girl he had a crush on. Terrified by himself and his powers, Kevin decided he needed to leave the Institute, figuring that he was too much of a threat. Several months later he was convinced to return by Emma Frost, and placed back on the New Mutants' squad. However, when Kevin was arrested by the FBI for the murder of his father, it was the Hellions who came to his aid and tried to bust him out--without consulting their mentor. Kevin felt the Hellions cared about him where the New Mutants had left him out to dry, so he switched squads with Icarus. He became much more sullen and withdrawn, starting a downward spiral as he slowly began to accept that he was never going to learn to control his powers. They were evil, and they were making him evil.
After M-Day, when almost all Xavier's students were depowered, Kevin mistakenly assumed he was one of them and touched Laurie's arm--permanently maiming it. Distressed, and hearing his friends refer to him as dangerous, Kevin fled the Institute again, living in what remained of Mutant Town with a woman he'd befriended, an elderly lady who enjoyed his company and whom he took care of. It was later revealed to him that that woman was Selene, the Black Queen, who seduced him and made him an offer to become the Black King. He accepted, but now he's having second thoughts.
Kevin is canon up to before the events of Necrosha, at which point he'll go AU because seriously that's stupid.
